Track Cycling in Ireland

With Track Cycling becoming ever more popular why not travel down to your local velodrome and give Track Cycling a try. If you are based in Ireland we can help you to introduce your family to the sport and share the enjoyment of what truly is the greatest sport in the world.

Eamonn Ceannt Park

The Lord Mayor of Dublin Cllr. Emer Costello officially opened the newly upgraded cycling velodrome at Eamonn Ceannt Park, Sundrive Road, Dublin 12 on Saturday 11th July 2009 at 12.30pm.

The Lord Mayor Cllr. Emer Costello said, "This brand new velodrome is a fabulous facility for all cycling enthusiasts especially those within Dublin city. This project shows Dublin City Councils commitment to provide excellent community based sports facilities in an effort to meet the growing demand for sporting amenities throughout the city".

The velodrome is the only one in the country and it is used by Cycling Ireland throughout the summer months teaching the skills needed for track riding. Cycling Ireland also intend to hold local, national and international meetings throughout the summer at the velodrome.

The Cycling Velodrome, which cost in the region of E50,000, was financed jointly by Dublin City Council and a grant received by Cycling Ireland under the Sports Capital Programme from the Department of Art, Sport and Tourism.

David Cockram of the British Cycling Federation undertook and oversaw the track design and CLG Construction completed the work.

Some of the new design features of the velodrome track include level changes around all four bends, realignment of the track edge and resurfacing of the entire cycling area. The work began in February and was completed on schedule.

The next phase of development of sporting facilities in Eamonn Ceannt Park is the construction of a changing pavilion, which will serve both the velodrome and the sports pitches.
